Twitter Updates for 2008-08-06

  • Kitchen cleaned up & dishwasher started, and it’s not even 1 AM yet. Did that wake me enough to do something more ethereally useful… #
  • @caltechgirl Sorry I missed it! Maybe next time… :> #
  • Not sure why I bother to sort & store my e-mail so elaborately if I still can’t find important ones when I need them months later. #
  • Well, there’s a bit of quick revenue generating effort, I hope. #
  • Perchance to sleep now… #
  • Feels window-closingly like fall this morning. No wonder: 63.7 F, dewpoint of 64. Sheesh, hard to use a computer & keep mice away from baby. #
  • Wondering how best to go about a domain sale to be sure they pay you & have them be sure they’ll get it transferred. Maybe list in TDNAM… #
  • specifically for the purpose of the already (I hope) known buyer completing the transaction there. #
  • Valerie is up and is infectiously sad this morning. That’s not good. #
  • Val sad to be awake, sad I made her coffee, sad to have siblings, just sad. Waiting for her tortured soul to be more silently so. #
  • Infanticide considered harmful. :( #
  • I think poor Val is having sinus trouble from the smoke last night. I escaped in better shape than last time, though still feeling it. #
  • @Pistachio My Blackberry is weirdly receiving SMS, but can’t send anything, receive e-mail, or hit the web. #
  • @judis217 42? That means it’s your “answer year.” That’s 5 years ago for me. Happy birthday! #
  • @Pistachio Well crap, you solved my Blackberry problem by mentioning reset. I’d powered it off but didn’t know to do soft reset. Worked. #
  • Didn’t even have to do a double soft reset or a batteryectomy reset. Yay! It’s going nuts, receiving e-mail from the past couple days. #
  • Oh fudge, all the bounces/rejects from my address that was spoofed for spam are on server, coming to Blackberry. 120+ just those. #
  • @judis217 Heh. Hitchhiker’s Guide books, 42 is The Answer (to Life, the Universe and Everything), so I call it the answer year now. #
  • Grilled cheese & tomato soup on the way for hungry kids. Except allergy boy, of course. He gets safe leftovers. #
  • Baby who fell asleep in high chair is wide awake now, wanting to play with my computers, not sleep at all. Silly boy. #
  • Just ate grilled cheese, tomato soup, potato chips, tiny bit of peeled apple. Can’t stop itching all over like I’m reacting as baby does. #
  • Cheddar seems to have done that to me, but not other cheese or dairy that I’ve noticed. Hmmm… #
  • Also tasted 1 piece of rotini with baby’s soy margarine. He’s not itchy but safe meal seemed to make him redder faced & splotch on chest. #
  • I do 98% of cooking but meatloaf is Deb’s specialty. Pondering how to concoct one. It’s baking weather & sounds good. #
  • Not that it should be a problem, considering the meatballs I invented off the cuff are some of the best I’ve ever had. Related foods. #
  • @robmay That would be oatmeal raisin. Preferably with nuts. #
  • Better start supper before anyone starves. #

  • @Shurakai Have you tried Michael’s? Bea’s? #
  • @Shurakai calling Lynn to see #
  • @Shurakai Nobody home or near machine at Lynn’s. Seeing about Michael’s. #
  • @Shurakai Roger”s until Tuesday. #
  • Now I’m really confused. Making fun of the implication that Indian programmers are subhuman (”icky brown people”) makes me a Republican? #
  • @Shurakai Mom apparently didn’t want to take her car all the way to Maine, but Gram was itching to go, as they never do anymore. #
  • Back to sleep for a while, before I freeze. #
  • @listener42 Next up will be 2001: A Tweet Odyssey. #
  • Sleep would be really great. #
  • 62.7 would explain why it’s chilly. We’ll be sealing the place for winter before we know it. #
  • @kcarruthers Covering windows with plastic, sealing the leaks around them with Mortite, in our case also sealing off a closet & front door. #
  • @kcarruthers That and putting screens up, glass storm windows down, except in a few that lack them or need to be openable. #
  • @kcarruthers That was what I figured. New houses also don’t need the effort, but in drafty 150 yr old New England houses… #
  • Day not going as planned or imagined. #
  • I love when allergy advice sites recommend safe foods that aren’t. #
  • Buying 3 loaves at a time is no help when you run out of bread and can’t think of what to eat that’s not breadcentric. #
  • @MikeG1 Yeah, I wouldn’t write about them either if I were you. #
  • Maybe it’s time to try one of the barbers right here in town, no matter how good they are in Halifax. #
  • Guess I have to go make supper and stuff… #
  • Sadie drew her first piece of fan art last night, we discovered just before supper tonight. Have to scan it. #
  • @Shurakai Ping! #

Twitter Updates for 2008-08-04

  • Intensely annoyed that the radio is off & won’t go on on my Blackberry, but my other T-Mobile phone seems to work. #
  • All I can do to stay awake. Need to get kids to bed. Fun day but a handful. No pictures of Henry’s 1st swim, but he’s a natural. #
  • Val caused a stir by heading off into the woods to explore. Hope she doesn’t get poison ivy consequences. #
  • I did similar when I was 3-4, but more so, taking off “to pick blueberries” out of season. We were lone house surrounded by woods. #
  • Still seems weird not only to have lots under an acre & houses so close, but to have *anything* nearby at all. #
  • @y2vonne It’s your birthday today? Happy birthday! #
  • @MikeG1 Annoying thing about kid’s meals is instead of being good stuff in small portions it’ll often be crap, as if kids lack tastebuds, #
  • The sad, short half-life of helium filled traditional balloons… #
  • Letting the Blackberry charge way up to be sure it’s not that. Deleted half the messages on it in case radio off was due to out of space. #
  • Ironically, the Blackberry has been showing more signal strength than usual while it’s been refusing to communicate. #
  • @Pistachio Crossword clue just now: “Nut in the cashew family.” #
  • @Pistachio Funny, I was in it shortly before you tweeted this, noting the 1st of your updates. #
  • Poring over XLS with actual tested salicylate contents of different foods, sometimes by brand, is fascinating. #
  • 2 PM already? How’d that happen? Let’s see if I can have another bite to eat & get something done w/o waking baby while other 3 are away… #
  • Spammer spoofing one of my addresses as the sender. Hate when that happens and I get a zillion bounces. #
  • Blackberry started working briefly on its own, SMS only, seems to have stopped again. Got late notice from T-Mobile, a few tweets, now off. #
  • Telling it to turn wireless on notifies you “turning wireless off,” as if it flicks on then instantly off again by itself. #
  • Classic! Get on my T-Mobile, Blackberry Support, click troubleshooting and “…page you have requested no longer exists.” #
  • If T-Mobile or RIM were like a certain cable company that “cares,” they’d have tweeted back at me already. #
  • I love oatmeal cookies. I’m that freak who would prefer oatmeal raisin to chocolate chip any day. #
  • It seems the Blackberry is receiving SMS, so @Shurakai tweeting just came through again, but can’t send e-mail. #
  • Shouldn’t planned obsolescence fall closer to the end of our 2 year contract, in October? #
  • No outgoing SMS, but I receive. So that’s 1/4 of the functionality. That’s enough for anyone, just like 640k. #
  • Now where was I? #
  • @Shurakai I have no idea. It’s always possible, but then you have to worry she’s babysitting & gram can’t get to the phone. #
  • @caltechgirl Those sound good too. Oddly, I prefer the chocolate in traditional choc chip butter cookies than oatmeal choc chip. Raisins ftw #
  • @Shurakai Were just discussing next weekend and pos of my bringing food. #
  • @michellis7 Is that a trick question? #
  • I turned OFF the Blackberry, plugged it in to charge the percent or two I’d used, and it’s over there buzzing like crazy receiving stuff…. #
  • All in the form of family tweets. Didn’t know it received SMS while turned off (which it still was). #
  • @SheilaS That’s not a Mac thing, but a latest Word version thing. If needed you can download a converter to allow older Word to open docx. #
  • Eclectic supper, but good. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-08-03

  • @PeoriaPundit That’s a good post on the issue and makes it clearer than Sitemeter’s “it’s fixed” post did. #
  • @feliciaday One hears that a lot. Luckily I’ve yet to have a problem, but I hesitated to use PayPal for years due to reputation. #
  • Wondering why I pick up after them. #
  • Sleep is so cool. #
  • Trying to bore the baby into hanging out away from me so he won’t be mad when I go take a shower at 8:00. #
  • He being so cute this morning. But then, he usually is. #
  • I swear I typed that apostrophe s. The crossed my brain on the way to the hypothetical nerves to my fingers, anyway. #
  • They. Not the, they. Must not try to type any further because apparently I lack the reflexes of a zombie yet today. #
  • Couldn’t resist being inflammatory about someone’s opinion that Ruby is only fit for use if you’re outsourcing coding to India. #
  • @MikeG1 I was shocked by the reaction to a looping link I got from your blog & sent to my mailing list of former VB support colleagues. #
  • Right, make sure the car runs & doesn’t need a jump, before Deb leaves… #
  • Silly car needed a jump. #
  • Kids have recovered enough from their mother leaving at 10:30 so now maybe I can feed them before we get ready to leave… #
  • I hate having to figure out what clothes can go on what kid and what to dress them in to go out of house. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-08-02

  • @sharone75 Will you be at, you know, Sunday? Or will you be off on vacation then? #
  • @sharone75 That’s too bad as they’d add to the pool fun and chaos, and the childcare in the case of the babysitters in training. #
  • I need to make sure the car still runs before I use it Sunday. #
  • Waited out a Val tantrum thrown for no reason, now they are less ready for bed that they were. Or not, since I see them nesting in office #
  • @lazycoder My 1st seemed to know as soon as the 2nd was implanted and starting to grow. But then I dreamed all 3 the year before the 1st. #
  • How do so many 2 year olds make it to 3? #
  • They grow up eventually… They grow up eventually… They grow up eventually… #
  • Sneaking in watching episodes of @feliciaday’s The Guild at watchtheguild.com, and thinking of @Shurakai & co. #
  • It’s been too peaceful too long. Even though the bathroom door is closed, I’d better find out why… #
  • Welcome to the small children collider, where kids go around at high speeds like so many atomic particles. #
  • Sadie declared me illogical for telling her not to do something that mom said no to previously but I didn’t, since mom is out of the house. #
  • Tiny pieces of dried pineapple don’t seem to have bothered the baby. Pineapple & dried fruits in general are supposed to be especially bad. #
  • But it’s always about quantity too, and they were one tiny piece yesterday and another today. #
  • This is the 3rd time one or both girls have stopped a pending nap before it could start, which is a big time waster for me. #
  • Just saw the alleged Site Meter/IE7 problem. Tested IE7. Can’t repro. Figure it’s a specific setting or update combo. #
  • My IE7 on Vista is update-free. #
  • @PeoriaPundit Ah, that would explain why I couldn’t repro it. I was amazed it wasn’t blogged there. You’d think they’d “know” blogging. #
  • @chucksimmins IIRC when the cookie issue came up, I just blocked the specific one. #
  • @PeoriaPundit I’m a bit confused as to why anyone would have Sitemeter code fall outside their body tags. #
  • @PeoriaPundit That’s the thing, all that stuff gets parsed such that it’s seen by the browser as being within the body tags. #
  • @PeoriaPundit So if it’s a matter of where it is in, say, a PHP file, that’s a lame way of putting it in their post. Oh well. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-08-01

  • Richard Viguerie is a spammer. #
  • Neil Patrick Harris as The Joker in some future installment… #
  • Val is sleeping in swim suit that Sadie used last year, after trying it on to see if it fit her now. So cute. Presumed swimming Sunday… #
  • For which luckily only Sadie lacks a suit that fits. #
  • Feeling geeky. Post on looping, each, array traversal in Ruby, unfamiliar to me, has me intrigued by the language. #
  • Windows Mail in Vista fails in having easy way to say “this is junk” that echoes the “not junk” option. Too many choices. Want it to learn. #
  • Learn implicitly, not by being told crudely to block a domain or a sender. #
  • It appears not to “learn” from the “not junk” option either, though, making that just a shortcut for “move to inbox.” #
  • Bathroom floor mopped. Little ones unexpectedly bathed. Threw in putting up new shower curtain for good measure. #
  • Guess I’ll feed the little monsters. #
  • Had no idea Jubal was a biblical name. Thought Heinlein made it up & Whedon borrowed. Didn’t know about the general. #
  • What’s up with Sadie forgetting how to use a mouse and click on things herself? Sheesh. Okay, food… #
  • @Shurakai CRT or LCD? #
  • @pamslim I’d probably show based on stuff he could relate to, like here’s where we go to X on a map, now see how close that is compared to.. #
  • @alizasherman Post hits close to home. Revealingly personal was part of how I met/married a fellow blogger. The more family read, the less.. #
  • @alizasherman we’ve both been willing/able to say. My bad experience was this year when a local news event close to my family happened… #
  • @alizasherman and a stink was raised by guy who owns biz that used to be in family, scary enough I’d have fled the state if I could. #
  • @alizasherman Redacted a bunch of posts, none of which actually said anything bad or untrue, and in fact were sympathetic. Now barely blog. #
  • @Shurakai It being a Microsoft product? :> #
  • @Shurakai Hey, you never know. Tempted to grab a 15, oddly enough, for H. His is basically dead & the 17s & 19 are allocated/planned… #
  • @Shurakai But… 21″ ones? Wow. Tempted just because, but even the 19 was kind of big for my desk arrangement. Hmmm… #
  • @Shurakai Maybe I’ll take that and give a 17 to Gary’s house or whoever. #
  • @Shurakai I hate grumpy bills. #
  • @michellis7 See spot run. Run spot run. Better? :> #
  • Sigh… Guess I have to see what the crying is about. #
  • Let’s see how long it takes from deciding to do something meaningful to the time I am buried in children… #
  • Last tweet RE kids was followed by just that & napping baby, who then was woken up at least 30 mins early by sister living dangerously. #
  • Still had to put that 1/2 hr or so into soothing him back down & almost sleeping again. Now they’re all just mothing me. Time to start chow. #
  • Sadie really enjoys Dr. Horrible. #
  • @Shurakai You’re just watching it? If you’ve seen “Doogie” as an adult, it might not seem so odd. Plus, hello, Whedon. #
  • @Shurakai Toy Story Buffy Angel Firefly Serenity Etc. Worked with Edlund a lot. #
  • @Shurakai Or were you who-ing Michelle/Manda? You didn’t @ it. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-07-31

  • Should do something to celebrate not having needy kids becking and calling me. Ma- oops, I invokved Val by typing that! #
  • Was gonna say maybe a shower, but first Val needs a drink. #
  • @chucksimmins Happy birthday! #
  • @chelpixie I was noticing that blocked followers seem to stay in my followers list now and just get flagged as blocked. Weird. #
  • It’s uncanny. Typed a text to Deb & then thought the kids were leaving me alone so could do something. In they came. #
  • @JonHenke My father had one of those, basically a cooler you plug into cig lighter, but it only kept stuff some amount below ambient. #
  • My work here is done: Sadie just started singing “it’s a brand new day” from Dr. Horrible part 2. #
  • @debbieweil I’ve used EE for years and still like it, but recently switched blogblivion.com to WordPress for a few reasons. #
  • @debbieweil Archived the EE one to blogblivion.com/eeblog, and accidentalverbosity.com is still EE. Used pMachine at elhide.com/solo b4 that #
  • Kids. #
  • Pondering what to make for supper. And for kids in meantime. Thinking of boiling chicken legs & bootstrapping into something with lentils. #
  • Holy crap, the baby just said “rice cake.” #
  • @pixxiespaz They *are* cute, as I was reminded last night when Val fell asleep on coach & then putting Sadie to bed. #
  • @pixxiespaz Sadie was using a toy pasta spoon & pretending to crochet, totally imitating her mother’s tone & manner, then told me she… #
  • @pixxiespaz especially likes watching the Little Lulu DVD because there’s crochet in it somewhere. Never watched it all so can’t confirm. #
  • @pixxiespaz Lentils? Yes! They are one of the really safe items, and he loved them, just cooked in chicken broth. #
  • @pixxiespaz He happened to be chawing on a piece of one he’d apparently stashed. That’s one of the safest things. Rice is where you begin… #
  • @pixxiespaz when you eat the safest, most minimal, clear system, then add back other things. Unflavored rice cakes, of course. #
  • The sad part is the dairy & bananas, both of which would be super safe if they weren’t separate reactions. Still, he can eat a lot. #
  • Especially in moderation. Which is why something like rosemary that’s bad is probably OK flavoring some things for him. Used it in fries. #
  • Sound works on Sadie’s computer, MIDI & WAV, but Magic Schoolbus loses its sound from “seatbelts everyone” on. Strange. #
  • Sound works on Monster Truck Madness, system sounds, playing WAV or MID files (Val was entranced by the latter). Bus Stop WAV test works. #
  • It’s MSB-specific, but not CD-specific, & one that fails for Sadie works for Valerie. I’ll have to search & see if known issue. #
  • Hmmm… why would priority level (??) of audio codecs change itself? #
  • @chucksimmins Could be. Along with my comedy of errors cautionary book on how not to start and run a business, story of my experiences. #
  • @jcaruso What really makes them idiots is setting the time too long or trusting a “popcorn” setting, then walking away. #
  • 2 KB articles did not fix the Magic School Bus problem. #
  • @venomouskate Oh man! That it does. #
  • @margilowry Henry always choked easier than the girls ever did, but quickly became better than them at self-recovery. Lots of scares though. #
  • Firepit smoke filling our apartment from no idea where in the neighborhood reminds me of the “I went to college” Romancing the Stone scene. #
  • @neatlytangled Or to be “hempalicious” or whatever. #
  • Jeez, my head is starting to hurt from it already. I’d only just gotten over the sinus problems from the batch of smoke 3 nights ago. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-07-30

  • Procrastinating about cleaning the kitchen. #
  • Wasn’t planning to get so carried away, but I like the kitchen looking so much spiffier and usable. Giving the twerps a few minutes then bed #
  • @neatlytangled http://buzzsugar.com/1819402 !!!11! #
  • I think the girls actually *want* to go to bed, so waiting may have paid off in ease of disposal. #
  • Had what I thought was a craving for dessert, but it turned into overwhelming desire for a tall glass of milk. Which we no longer have. #
  • With 2 kids adversely affected by it, we’ve not been buying any. This is the most I’ve missed it. #
  • Argh! It’s been behaving well enough I didn’t expect a tweet to be eaten. #
  • Wish I weren’t too sleepy to stay functionally awake and that I didn’t feel gout flareup coming on. More water for me tomorrow! #
  • @robmay You have a baby and you haven’t learned to Respect The Sleep? #
  • Baby woke me up by finding a sippy cup from yesterday and trying to make sure I had a drink. Then got excited when asked if he’d like… #
  • some clear Kool-Aid (exciteded) in his bluuuue cup (more excited). #
  • Then I asked if he was practicing walking this morning, so he stood up and demonstrated. #
  • You know you’re not awake when you type “exciteded” blissfully unaware you’re doing so, and don’t notice the spell checker flagging it. #
  • In the turnabout is fair play department, Henry went and woke Sadie. That’s what she gets for not letting him nap over and over. #
  • 1st emergency kid bath of the day. Yay. #
  • Never heard of MS Expression Studio until today. $699 SRP would explain why. #
  • @phillymac Filled in “it’s got groove, it’s got meaning” automatically. Very sad. #
  • Getting a site approved for ads and then not setting a rate after approval would explain why nobody bought. #
  • @tcpeter Was replying to “Cuil is the word baby” in http://twitter.com/phillymac/statuses/872545751 #
  • @sekimori It’s a series of tubes, right? So what’s not to understand… :> #
  • I can’t remember the last time my sinuses were this bad. Almost debilitatingly so. #
  • Next frontier will be contact sensitivities. Just changed my shirt that clearly bothered the baby. #
  • @tcpeter Ah, the within me part shows just what @neatlytangled has to put up with. Odd connections are what I do, incessantly. #
  • Speaking of little guy, his nap was cut short by the upstairs people vacuuming of all things. Apparently the floor above us is wood. #
  • So it’s not the sound of the machine, but the rolling back and forth thunderously. #
  • If this weren’t sinuses, I’d be wondering when the stroke symptoms would start. Hope a couple more ibuprofen fix it. #
  • @listener42 Well, having a food is better than being a food. #
  • Time to hose cereal and cereal accessories off the baby and see how Sadie is doing with her French toast. Cuz why make it easy for me? #
  • Was about to tweet jokingly about what could I start to do that’s useful to make the kids come in here. Opened a piece of writing. Voila! #
  • I skipped the anticipatory tweet, but the outcome was exactly as expected. The girls introduced Henry to the Demon Frog. Hi, I’m baby Tad. #
  • @Ithildyn *Waves* Hi Jen! #
  • Naps are fragile. My typing that last tweet woke the baby near me on the floor. I should know that by now. #
  • Remembered to look up salicylates in cottonseed oil, as that’s in Crisco. Not on food lists, but on topical list it’s considered negligible. #
  • About to make fries in canola oil, which made me think of it. Serving them with turkey burgers. #
  • For some reason I still read Cuil as “kwee” every time I see it, then have to stop think parse it. At least Yuil I read as you’ll right off. #
  • @Ithildyn It’s supposed to be pronounced “cool.” #

Twitter Updates for 2008-07-29

  • Oh well, dork upstairs hasn’t played with fire lately, so it was due. Not sure closing one window & reversing my window fan will be enough. #
  • Eww, it’s already overheating in here. #
  • @ericasadun Is it wrong that I saw “RIP Light” and thought “I have won again, Lews Therin”? #
  • @neatlytangled The laughter from office was at this: http://tinyurl.com/6p99eb. #
  • @neatlytangled It’s almost Scalziesque. #
  • @SeanMarler That waitress exchange is funny… and sad. #
  • Instead of Henry Adam, we could have named the baby Malcolm Jayne and he’d have had the same initials as me. #
  • At least that wouldn’t have been as obvious by the first name as naming Valerie Kaylee would have been. #
  • For the first one, we always joked about naming her Zephram Rose instead of Sadie Rose. We were only joking… #
  • We joke that Valerie’s middle name was after the dragon, and Henry was named after Hank Reardon. I told him he’d invent Ellis Metal someday. #
  • Hey self! It’s OK to get sleepy now. Really. #
  • My poor head. Sinuses. Between the weather and probably the smoke last night. Most of which had nothing to do with upstairs neighbor. #
  • 81.4 Already, of an expected 88 here in scenic Middleboro, and feeling every bit like it’s about 95 and/or way more than 61% humid. #
  • @robmay The PRC is on the list? That’s funny. #
  • Just realized I’m running a couple hours late. Idea is to get to barber shop while it’s still morning so it doesn’t involve a 2 hr wait. #
  • @swhitley I thought it was an unusual case of the IP bully being in the right, but yeah, PR nightmare. Should’ve just bought Scrabulous. #
  • @swhitley Give the Scrabulous people a “why didn’t we think of that thanks for developing the market for us” attaboy and be well regarded. #
  • Yep, Dark Knight is good. #
  • @sharone75 You could totally leave them that long. If ours can’t handle that when Sadie is that age, I’ll be dismayed. #
  • Now to remember everything at Wal-Mart… #
  • Psyching self up to leave and arm and/or leg with cashier to cover cheese. #
  • Annoyed I can’t remember if canola oil is one of the low salicylates ones. #
  • @neatlytangled Cool! You beat Google to the answer. #
  • Freakin Club crackers contain corn starch! So either it’ssafe or that’s one of his low level residuals. #
  • Wow. 13 bags, $101.23 total. Including spices and a lot of produce, but aha, no meat. #
  • @MikeG1 Not that I think Scrabulous had a right to anything so much as bringing them in the fold might have been a good biz/PR move. #
  • Obviously I’d expect the price to be discounted from what it would have been if the idea had been original. Instead of it going to lawyers. #
  • Of course, I’ve never seen it and don’t know how obviously a clone it is, but the name is blatant. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-07-28

  • Must be time to watch Notting Hill again. Just burst out laughing when a train of thought took me into a couple of scenes from it. #
  • Specifically: Spike picking a T-shirt, Spike wearing the diving suit, Will wearing the prescription goggles to the movie theater. #
  • @Shurakai Shhhhh… be vewwy vewwy quiet. And kill da wabbit too. #
  • @Shurakai You know, they could change the Tweeter Center to Twitter Center with only a couple letters, but then random events would simply #
  • @Shurakai not happen as scheduled, or be inaudible, or the audience size would be arbitrarily limited. #
  • @SeanMarler I supported Dragon Naturally Speaking at a couple law firms. It mostly rocks & is a rare exception to upgrades not being better. #
  • @SeanMarler There was one bad release when the company was changing hands midway, but it’s gotten astonishingly good. Way back when 3.0… #
  • @SeanMarler was what we picked after buying and testing IBM Via Voice, Dragon, and Learnout & Hauspie Voice Xpress. Key considerations: #
  • @SeanMarler Reasonably powered PC, decent microphone & sound hardware in PC, some people/accents it just doesn’t fly, train & use shortcuts. #
  • @SeanMarler FWIW mostly they used Pro, but Standard probably fine. Also I think they may have a utility specifically for transcription. #
  • @SeanMarler But not sure and doing a playback by a microphone may work enough to save typing, even if it needs editing. #
  • Didn’t even notice Sadie going to sleep on a pile of bedding behind me in office. Then Val needed service & bedtime, went pullup-free. #
  • Be great if it sticks this time, which is likely. #
  • @Tammisworld Happy birthday! #
  • @TraderMike Happy birthday! #
  • Finished the daily stuff that falls into the “done by 8 AM” slot. #
  • Cuil: #1 for real name. #1 at old site for pseudonym, but… #2 result for pseudonym is resume under my real name. #
  • All that coffee should be accomplishing more than bladder overdrive. Apparently I’m immune today. #
  • A while back I noticed an intense amount of inexplicable crawling by Limelight Networks. Wonder if they were working for Cuil in development #
  • Fall must be coming. Now I’m almost unbearably hot. Overnight and into this morning it was downright cold. #
  • Seems wrong that we borderline qualified for energy assistance on what I made before I was unemployed. #
  • No wonder is was so easy to end up owing $2500-odd. #
  • Just talking about what you get stuck in your head for what things *should* cost or pay to be reasonable. #
  • I remember so vividly 20k/yr being a good income that it still seems wrong for not unreasonable rent & utils to be 18k/yr. #
  • @Pistachio Missed that. Standard far better, but automatic is less annoying in stop & go traffic. My 88 Sentra got 30 MPG in part b/c manual #
  • @MikeG1 ftl will always mean faster than light to me. notwithstanding fruit of the loom’s best efforts. #
  • Not sure why the girls try so much harder to limit baby’s napping when both of us are here. #
  • Appliance calculator tells me our electricity usage should be 3x what it actually is based on, well, what we have & how much it runs. #
  • If McCain picks Romney, I might actually go vote just to vote against him. #
  • Sleep would be nice. #
  • Yuck. Kids. #
  • Nice to see gas down to $3.77 around these parts. #
  • Time to check the beans continue the dishes start the other food get a drink reorganize the freezer. #
  • @christinelu Wow! Something views, but the first word completely escapes me. Looks like U, a bunch of lowercase L, and S. That’s absurd. #

  • Did I miss anything? #
  • Henry walked for real today. 11 Months and 6 days old. Took about 4 steps in a row. Then took a couple more a couple times. #
  • He’s past ready and was holding out on us. #
  • Darn girls got up before 7:00. Which led to baby being up earlier than otherwise. Well, and me, since they rousted me. #
  • Sinuses? Barometers? Who can tell the difference today? #
  • The girls are drawing, and Sadie asked me to help her draw what sounds like “a kin tee.” I had to give up on comprehending. #
  • If we send her to school, they’re going to torture her with speech therapy, but it really is bad how often this happens. #
  • @jefferyharrell Well, yeah! Isn’t that the *obvious* thing to do? A herd, not a pack. More power to the government solves *everything*. #
  • I have to remember that if the kids are that crazy, they probably need to eat, even if they don’t know it. #
  • @poliblogger Ever read The Dark Knight Returns? I got it in the original 4 part limited release. If anything, it was conservative bashing… #
  • @poliblogger Which makes the bit about the movie being the opposite amusing. Haven’t seen it yet, but assume people interpret biasedly. #

  • I meed to relearn the types of clouds and such, because Sadie has apparently sprouted a degree of interest. #
  • Or we could just get her a lesson with @shanzan… :> #
  • Unexpected: Sadie wasn’t ready to sleep yet when we were done reading books & Val was long out, so we ended up discussing human biology… #
  • at length, starting with her bringing up bones. She seemed to know or have put together a lot, but we surveyed bones, tendons, cartilage… #
  • joints, muscles, senses, major organs, with some points in detail, until she was sleepy enough. #
  • Just realized it’s been 24 years since my source of ire and I would still avoid renting a car from Hertz if at all possible. #
  • Perhaps I should not have had coffee at 8 PM. #
  • Corn for supper. Mom dropped off 4 ears, and some other stuff, which is how the girls had unexpected plums for breakfast. #
  • “Unexpected Plums” sounds like a blog name. Or a band. #
  • @Shurakai I keep thinking he ought to be tweeting. #
  • Haven’t even posted b’days yet. It’s my brother’s. Looks like it’s also b’day of one of those overrated famous for being famous dudes who I #
  • dismissed as not worthy of attention years ago. #
  • @PaulWalsh Entire West Wing series is on our DVD wishlist for someday when we can afford it AND the kids give us time to watch anything. #
  • @PaulWalsh We also loved the sadly brief Studio 60. #
  • Oops, I think my typing woke the baby. Still a pretty good nap. Allowed me time for a shower and shave! #
  • @MikeG1 Can it be called “bread” if it’s half-baked? #
  • @jefferyharrell I dunno, I didn’t mind the later season that much, and I kind of liked the final season, focused on the campaign. #
  • Feels wrong to be buying sugar 20 lbs at once. #

  • @pixxiespaz H’s in East Bridgewater, near the Whitman Peaceful Meadows. #
  • @Shurakai Oh my. #
  • @Shurakai You’re sure it was just Mountain Dew? #
  • Perhaps I’ll try to sneak in a shower while the kids aren’t looking & before I have to get them to bed. #
  • Val slept all afternoon, so she’s liable to be up until midnight anyway. #
  • @Shurakai Well, we can’t go having artificial hams, after all. #
  • Too late. Sadie is begging for something to eat, since she barely touched supper. #
  • @Shurakai Meat’s almost all she did eat, even if not all of it. Turkey meatballs, gravy, potato, carrots, green beans. Awesome meatballs. #
  • @Shurakai Ground turkey, onion, garlic, egg, oatmeal, salt, black pepper, thyme, bay leaf, ginger, celery, cumin, red pepper, couple others. #
  • Got a good pic of Henry brushing his teeth. I started calling him Charisma Boy today. He’s totally aware & in control of it. #
  • @ericasadun “Well I used to have them just about all the time…” #
  • @Shurakai I use that same line all the time. Kids, doncha know. Except they can’t have any pudding now because Charisma Boy is allergic. #
  • Pondering whether I feel like attracting the kids into the office by trying to do a few minutes of useful. #
  • Morning already? And the kids again didn’t let me get up first? Maybe I should have stayed up at 4:00. #
  • Relentless. Wondering if I can write a single post today, let alone the important one that I saved for last Monday because Friday is bad. #
  • This must be what 1984 feels like. I can’t do anything or go anywhere unfollowed or unaccosted. Baby sleeping, trying to sneak a shower… #
  • And Valerie’s dislike of kiwi watermelon Kool-Aid will make things interesting, since 2/3 of time it’s that so baby can safely have it. #
  • The kids don’t realize they really need to let me DO stuff so we can still be living here in a month. #
  • That feels better. Apparently it helped to rant at Sadie about shadowing me mercilessly, so I got a good shower. Alone. And baby yet sleeps! #
  • @judis217 I’ve been going around singing “love your hair… underthings… tumbling…” after watching the 3 parts 3 times. #
  • @judis217 Apparently in the window behind him when he’s “blogging” are pans hanging in shape of Serenity. Nice touch. #
  • Sadie needs to learn to enunciate clearly to “I want my butt wiped” isn’t a plea for her flashlight, which when last seen was powerless. #
  • Setting them up drawing is good. Getting sucked into “draw a bee, draw a house…” defeats the purpose. #
  • So now they are fighting, because they only have about 40 or so markers, crayons, pencils and pens, and even a stray piece of chalk to share #
  • Worse: “I need help drawing a ______.” A what? A bat? A data? Had to give with “I can’t understand you.” At least kites I could distinguish. #
  • Generic Cheerios were perfect food for Allergy Boy. Name brand bought without 2nd though b/c generic out? Has corn as 2nd biggest ingred. #
  • @michellis7 You mean I shouldn’t be doing that? Oops… #
  • @Shurakai Guess I should be careful, or they might turn out funny. #
  • @Shurakai If you haven’t, you should check out the look Deb caught on Sadie’s face in the 1st picture I posted. #

  • @Ithildyn http://tinyurl.com/5tnfr7 #
  • Impressive sounding hail. Was, anyway. Now it’s impressive thunder. #
  • Wonder what good songs came out in 1962… #
  • Lots of good 1962 songs to start humming. Moon River. Venus in Blue Jeans. Liberty Valance. Sherry. You Don’t Know Me. You Belong to Me… #
  • @PeoriaPundit Probably! Once “started humming a song from 1962…” started earworming me, I had to go look. Some surprised me. #
  • @ericasadun Indeed, 1974 was the 2nd year I was really “into music” and things really picked up then, for a while, always with exceptions. #
  • Wondering if @michellis7 is a casualty of Twitter maintenance or if she stopped following me so it dropped me from seeing her… #
  • Sleep is good. Sadie woke me for good at 7:00. Henry was up for good about 7:40. Why watch a video when they can play here in my office? #
  • 100% humidity. Big surprise there. #
  • So it’s going to be like that today, eh? “Which room did you throw up in” was confusing question because 2 rooms were involved. #
  • And Val wakes up demanding attention right in the middle of getting Sadie taken care of and into the shower. #
  • @phillymac @MikeG1 My brother tells me once you’ve had 3 you don’t even notice the 4th. I’m dubious. #
  • Of course, we had them so close together, it’s like a snake digesting a pig. In a couple years or so it’s going to seem brilliant. #
  • Price to make fun of Althouse being stupid while not registering it’s too quiet: several each bleach wipes & paper towels, soapy bath for 2. #
  • The baby apparently needs to learn what is an is not paint. #
  • @pixxiespaz Birthday party at Michael’s Saturday, 1 PM, if I heard the message right before Henry erased the machine after it fell on floor. #
  • @pixxiespaz Party is for Tristan, whose b’day is Monday. Mike’s b’day is actually Saturday though. #
  • Was about to go see why so quiet, but now I hear crying. That’s, um… better? #
  • @cootiehog Oops. Time for unlimited plan or being selective about whose tweets go mobile. #
  • The dorks couldn’t let the baby stay asleep. #
  • Intrigued that baby left office quietly to go play & didn’t bother me when he woke. I should go offer lunch before they know they need it. #
  • Val having conceptual problem with taking turns. #
  • Just finished lunch. That ought to make me enthusiastic for supper in a couple hours. #

Twitter Updates for 2008-07-23

  • Getting to sleep by 10:30 would work better if not followed by waking at 2, then getting broken mostly non-sleep from 5:30 to 8. #
  • Time to find some functional in here somewhere. #
  • @pixxiespaz And I thought books were expensive when I was in college! OTOH there was no option but the monolithic school bookstore. #
  • @pixxiespaz $60 was probably the most I ever paid for a book, new, but that was 1982 - 1987. Call it $123 in today’s money. #
  • Youthful defenestration imagined. #
  • Valerie seems to have been set off by my having given her Kool-Aid when she asked for it. She’s made of sensitive. #
  • Hey, the waitstaff of Chez Ellis gets a few minutes off! What’s up with that? #
  • I hate to see what these kids will eat when they’re teenagers. The baby ate almost 2 slices of toast, bunch of rice, bunch of green beans. #
  • The girls ate about 5 eggs, half slice or so toast, bunch of green beans, lots of ketchup. #
  • Val thought cold green beans were about the Best Thing Ever. Good beans, from my father’s garden. #
  • Sadie cracked me up by using 4 pillows, including a giant Nemo pillow, to make a “comfy chair” at her computer. #
  • @poliblogger I understand it’s a vital part of good road construction, though, so whatcha gonna do. :> #
  • Hate when I coin a word and the domain is taken *and* it’s in Urban Dictionary already. #
  • That didn’t last long. #
  • Looking at parse_url and trying to figure out how to protect Sadie’s computer from the baby turning it off and on repeatedly. #
  • Wishing I had some chili paste. #
  • Ginger, too. The ginger in the fridge can’t possibly still be good. Had an idea for a recipe last night. #
  • Pictured something akin to Chinese green beans, with slivers of pork, served in flour tortillas with some rice. #
  • I could fake it, but forgot I wanted to make tortillas. Way too late to start that. Oh well. #
  • @margilowry Even after the blood has dried? #
  • Severe thunderstorm watch, eh? Missed that. Radar looks like armies of doom marching inexorably eastward. #
  • Example in php.net gives parse_url with 2nd param to get specific element, but it errors that it doesn’t DO 2 parameters, only 1. Odd. #
  • Ah. Version 4.x need not apply. #
  • Well, off to the kitchen. Maybe I can direct the beasties away from me, into the living room. #
  • Had to turn on lights to see in kitchen at all. Thunder audible tho radar shows not that close yet. #
  • Oh holy crap. Tornado warning that covers us. Like, almost bullseye as much as these things get. #
  • Shutting down computers. Blackberry & TV should do me. #
  • Not pleased that T-Mobile’s service went down completely for the duration of “at least I can X on Blackberry” emergency. #

  • @MikeG1 That’s a lot better than when the kids do it, since you’re not being literal. #
  • Sadie: The Girl Who Cried Bug. “There’s a bug, a bug!” “Where”" Right there.” That’s not a bug!” #
  • Playing with PHP to see if I can do something useful. #
  • Weird to be cold. #
  • I dreamed PHP. How odd, considering I didn’t delve into it *that* much. #
  • What I need in PHP is not referring URL to parse, but intended URL that generated, or would generate, error page. #
  • @poliblogger Happy birthday! #
  • Well that was interesting. Apparently the files in the WP theme prevent the PHP from working normally. #
  • Perhaps a custom 404 page? Hmmm… #
  • Ah, medical bureaucracy. #
  • Need to stop obsessing about this stuff long enough to go get hair cut and see Dark Knight. #
  • String variables that are inherently arrays of characters. That’s cool. #
  • Decided my hair can grow for another week and the movie won’t be gone from theaters any time soon. #
  • Had the tastiest fried egg sandwich ever and am now ravenous, like it turned on my appetite. #
  • And why does that character array thing not work in actual practice? #
  • Ah, bet I know why. One-way behavior. #
  • @jefferyharrell Beats me! Sounds kind of like that yearbook thing you get when you’re a high school senior. #
  • The . seems like a strange character to use for concatenation. Or instead of * or % for that matter. #
  • @PatrickRuffini Holy crap, that is amazing! Just what someone needed to do. #
  • @PatrickRuffini But if he chooses Romney, he’s dead to me. End of the line. #
  • I should setup a Linux box. #
  • Done being nap surface for baby. #
  • It’s going to be fun taking the baby swimming for the first time ever in a couple weeks. #
  • The kids may have decided they hate the blue Kool-Aid (raspberry lemonade, that is), but I am happy to help them drink it. #
  • Apparently this DVD can’t be copied to give us a spare. #
  • Poor Simon. But this looks pretty good on my computer. “This food is problematic.” #
  • And the hat makes its debut! “People know he’s not afraid of anything.” #
  • “What’d y’all order a dead guy for?” #
  • Ben Edlund lived maybe 3 miles from where I grew up, in the next town over. Closer to contemporary in school with my brother, though. #
  • OK, enough torturing myself with Firefly and maybe I can do a little more before supper. #

  • @Shurakai Gotta be better than Katie Cult was in the role, no? #
  • Never knew “marrow” was a name for squash. #
  • Trying to figure out how zucchini can be one of the highest veggies in salicylates, while other summer squashes are moderate or so. #
  • And a squash I never heard of that’s an entirely different species but sometimes called “summer squash” can be about as low as it gets. #
  • @robmay Did your wife learn anything fun about isotopes the other day? #
  • Finished last night’s post about squash and salicylates and cashews (oh my). #
  • @sMoRTy71 I felt that way when I wore a suit to a couple of interviews. #
  • It seems that Fail Whale is caring real hard this morning. #
  • I have the AC off, but Sadie is convinced the door to the office must be closed. #
  • @smallbiztrends BBB was probably the most obnoxious telemarketer I ever dealt with & they have an “offer you can’t refuse” air to them. #
  • I wish Fail Whale would stop caring me so hard. #
  • @abigvictory Only if it’s a whale of a failure? #
  • Amused with former big client of former business. Put their web hosting under their control over a year ago. #
  • They just got overdue notice they hadn’t paid… last Sept. Asked me if that was indeed their web host & they should pay it. #
  • Trying to figure out how I can both justify and juggle funds for a haircut and Dark Knight tomorrow. #
  • Funny that Twitter went along fine for a while, then Amazon blew up dramatically and Twitter is toast again afterward. #
  • @Ithildyn Amazon got good at farming servers so went into business hosting other stuff. Ultimate robust kinda thing. Includes parts of this. #
  • @Ithildyn So that was shorthand for their hosting, not their retailing, though one recent fail took them down too. #
  • Off to do this morning’s errands quick then make supper. #

Salicylate Lists

Here is one list, in a format I find relatively pleasing. Here is another list in a format I find harder to follow, but which may be more complete, and gives numerical ranges (I’d have bolded those section headers to make it easier to follow.)

Related Plants List

Found this list interesting in my travels.
